On the extra large beds width will vary somewhat but keep in mind that length is normally the most important measurement when it comes to dog beds. The standard extra large length is usually a minimum of 42 inches and up to 52 inches or more. An easy way to measure your dog’s length would be from the tip of his or her nose to a couple of inches below the base of the tail. Some giant breeds have pretty long legs so you might want to consider this when buying for your dog. These dogs are also more prone to joint disorders and arthritis than smaller dogs so an orthopedic dog bed could be an important option in your buying decision.

Large Pet beds vary from around 32 inches to 36 inches and more long with widths anywhere from 28 to 36 inches. Extra large beds will work for these dogs as well as smaller dogs. As in human beds, the difference is in the price. And a large bed can cost considerably more than a small bed. You always have the option of using one large bed for two or more small dogs. However some dogs tend to be a bit territorial when it comes to their beds.
